Rangers Rumble To First Place

It's official. My three-day-long Mavericks hangover/mourning period is at an end.

Now it's time to get into some baseball, and right now looks looks a good time as the Texas Rangers (13-12) just swept a three-game series in Seattle for the first time since 1999. The Rangers pitching carried the team, allowing only four total runs in the series to the Seattle Mariners (11-14).

"Out pitching staff's been our backbone all year," said David Murphy, who knocked in both the game-tying and game-winning runs for Texas Sunday afternoon.

Texas has seen it's pitching staff's ERA fall to 3.48, which is third in the American League. Overall, the Rangers have won six of their past eight games and now hold a half-game lead over the Oakland Athletics (13-13) for first in the American League West.

The Rangers head to Oakland tonight to take on those Athletics to try and get some breathing room at the top of the division. Expect daily briefs throughout the week and detailed coverage on the Texas Rangers for the rest of the season.

News and Notes:
  • C.J. Wilson is fourth among A.L. pitchers in ERA at 1.65 so far this season.
  • Over the last seven days, Josh Hamilton has batted .344, hit three home runs, and knocked in five RBI. He's seen his overall average jump from .230 to .269 during that time.
