Record-Breaking Evening, 117-101

The Dallas Mavericks (14-5) had their best offensive half in franchise history, Wednesday (Dec. 2), scoring 77 points and missing only two shots in the second quarter (17 of 19). The Nets are now in the record books as the only team to ever start a season 0-18 in NBA history.

After the game was tied 34-34, early in the second quarter, the Mavericks went on a 43-16 run to end the half; going into the locker room up 77-50. The Nets did cut the lead to 16 mid-way through the fourth quarter, forcing Rick Carlisle to put some of his starters back on the floor, including Dirk Nowitzki. Dallas quickly regained control and Carlisle was able to rest his top-guys for the rest of the game. Not a good night for the Mavericks' back-ups who were supposed to make this win an easier one and give Nowitzki and Co. a break.

"At this point, I feel the streak has definitely gotten the best of us. It's really not starting to get to us now," guard Chris Douglas-Roberts said. "So when a team goes on a run, we kind of, it's almost like we give up, which is really unfortunate but that's what it looks like to me. We kind of give up and just lay down instead of trying to fight."

Nowitzki led Dallas in scoring for the 16th time in 19 games, and also had a season high in assists (8), while pulling down seven boards to boot. Dallas was +30 with Nowitzki on the court.

Erick Dampier played well in his second game back, registering his fourth double-double of the season with (a season high) 18 points and 11 rebounds. Dampier also contributed two blocks.

Jason Kidd outplayed the point guard for the Nets thoroughly in this one (what was his name again?). Kidd was only two rebounds away from a triple-double; he registered 16 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds, five steals, and a blocked shot. Not to mention he made five of six shots and both of his three-pointers.

That other point guard (Harris I think it is?) notched 17 points, but accounted for only three assists and a rebound in 34 minutes. The three assists and only one rebound are both season lows for Harris.

Dallas took care of business, Nets just suck. The end.

Dallas next game is in Memphis, Friday Dec. 4. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m. and can be seen locally on Fox Sports Southwest.
