Baseball Hot Stove - Rangers Getting Screwed

Really? That's all Texas could get for a pitcher who was 8th in the American League in ERA (3.76), had the second most wins for Texas (13-10), and was the most experienced pitcher on the roster? Don't get me wrong, Millwood was an infuriating player who only came close to his perceived potential in his contract year, but Chris Ray (0-4, 7.27 ERA last season) and a player to be named later?

It appears as though this is the equivalent of a salary dump and the Rangers are going to use the gained salary to sign Rich Harden (who is technically signed and awaiting a physical) and then possibly flip Chris Ray for Tampa Bay catcher Dioneer Naveer (.218 average, 32 RBI), according to DallasNews.com's Evan Grant.

Yet and still, Harden has never pitched more than 190 innings in a season (in comparison, Millwood has done so two out of four seasons with the Rangers) and Navarro would be the third-best catcher on the roster if Saltalamacchia ever comes back from his back troubles.

Also, Harden wasn't so hot last year as he started the second-most games in his entire career (26) and had a 9-9 record and a 4.09 ERA, for the Chicago Cubs, to show for it. If this guy can't get under a 4.00 ERA in the National League, he isn't going to be anything special for Texas in the AL; especially if they expect him to be a number-one starter.
