2010 NFL Draft - What Will Dallas Do?

With six picks in this year's NFL draft and coming off of an 11-win season along with a playoff victory for the first time in over a decade, I feel like the Cowboys need to focus on drafting the best player available, regardless of position.

While Dallas does need help at left tackle after the departure of Flozell "False Start' Adams and at safety after Ken Hamlin's exit, there is value to be had later in the draft - especially at the safety which is extremely deep this season and Dallas could get a comparable player in the second round. If Dallas does draft for need, you have to go tackle here. It's without question a more important position than safety.

In terms of flashy moves or trades, I don't see the Cowboys trading up. However, if the player they want isn't there at 27, I wouldn't be surprised if they trade out of the first round altogether. If Dallas does stay with their 27th pick, they have to go tackle here. I think they take genetic freak (6'6, 314 lb, 4.8 second 40-yard dash) and combine superstar Bruce Campbell with this pick. Dallas doesn't necessarily need him to start immediately (Leonard Davis could move to left tackle for this season) and he showed immense athletic ability and potential at this year's scouting combine.

The Buzz

Rick Gosselin, Dallas Morning News: Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State - Best WR in draft slides to a team that needs WR help

Pat Kirwan, NFL.com: Roger Saffold, OT, Indiana - Saffold has been moving up draft boards for weeks since the offensive line coaches started their private workouts. The Cowboys released Flozell Adams and need line help. This kid can play guard or tackle, and don't let the quiet, passive demeanor fool you, he is a solid player.

Don Banks, Sports Illustrated: Charles Brown, OT, USC - The Cowboys' need at offensive tackle has been front burner all offseason, and the choice of Brown reflects how a first-round run serves to push up the value of the second tier prospects at that position. Going safety remains a possibility, with both USC's Taylor Mays and South Florida's Nate Allen still available.

Taylor Smith, Bleacher Report: Mike Lupati, G, Idaho - This is an easy choice for the Cowboys, who are also always candidates to trade up. It's been reported that Iupati, a guard in college, has sufficient ability to convert to tackle in the NFL, where he could eventually replace Flozell Adams for the Cowboys. Iupati would essentially be a best-case scenario pick, as they've been interested in his services all along.
