Cocaine Is A Helluva Drug

Texas Rangers' manager Ron Washington reportedly used cocaine in July of last season. (AP Photo/Charlie Neibergall)

This is pretty shocking for baseball fans (especially in Texas) who are used to stories only about players using steroids. No, this is a different situation altogether where the manager of a contending team did coke in the middle of the season.

From the report its unclear how he ingested the substance or what form of cocaine it was, but holy hell how crazy is this. The most insane thing about this whole process (and this is something I didn't know) is that if you turn yourself in to the league office, you are exonerated of all wrongdoing. I guess all you have to do is repent in the MLB.

Another wild thing is the Rangers' stance on this whole thing. Sources say Washington won't be suspended and no punishment will be levied upon him. Wow.

Here are more details from ESPN, including a quote from Washington.

More on this as the story becomes clearer.

  1. Ron Washington is an idiot for using any drug, especially one as serious as cocaine. I can't believe he won't be punished for his actions. Anyone else on earth who tests positive for cocaine during a drug test would most definitely lose his or her job.

  2. Yeah, or at least be reprimanded in some way right?

And I thought Nolan Ryan wanted to bring in his own manager and Ron Washington's job wasn't safe to begin with.

  3. Who the fuck cares so he snorted one time on the side. Hes a good coach, 87 wins for the Rangers is no joke.
