High Five! Rangers Cruise To 12-1 Victory

Texas was able to get back to it's high-scoring ways for the first time in July and C.J. Wilson got the pitching staff back on track in an all-around dominant win. Unlikely hero Joaquin Arias (above, left) knocked in a career-high four RBI on the night. (AP Photo/Tony Gutierrez)

With both Micheal Young and Elvis Andrus getting the night off, the Texas Rangers (49-34) got some unexpected offensive-production from it's two utility infielders.

Andres Blanco and Joaquin Arias combined to go 5 for 10 from the plate and knocked in half of the Rangers' 12 runs to take care of business against the Cleveland Indians (33-50).

"They picked us up," manager Ron Washington said. "I never doubted they would. Blanco got us two runs that put us ahead, Joaquin got the three-run double that extended the lead. The rest of the lineup fell into place."

C.J. Wilson (W, 7-4) put in work on the mound, allowing only one run in six innings - a 401 foot first-inning blast from Dallas-native Jayson Nix - as he settled after a rocky start. Consistency has been key for Wilson lately, he hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in six straight starts.

It's a great way to bounce back as the Rangers 12-1 win is it's largest margin of victory since late last season. Texas had 17 hits, four home runs, and seven batters had at least one RBI.

Texas has one left against the Indians, a rubber match with a scheduled 7:05 p.m. start time Wednesday night. Colby Lewis (7-5, 3.35 ERA) gets the start for Texas and Mitch Talbot (8-7, 3.86) takes the mound for Cleveland.

News and Notes:
  • A fan fell nearly 30-feet in the fifth inning from the upper deck onto the lower level. The game was stopped for about 16 minutes as both the crowd and each team was shaken by the freak-occurrence. The fan was taken to the hospital and was listed in stable condition Tuesday night. His injuries and not considered life-threatening.
