Cold As Ice- Rangers Lose 4-3

For the first time in the three-game series against the Chicago White Sox (23-30), the Texas Rangers (28-25) actually got some quality pitching from a starter.

Unfortunately for the Rangers, Colby Lewis' 6 1-3 innings of four run baseball wasn't enough, as White Sox outfielder Carlos Quinton came up with the game-winning home run in the seventh inning. This came after an error by Quinton in the outfield led to a Texas run and boos from the home crowd.

"He was pumped up, and he was ripping some guys' arms off with high fives," White Sox captain Paul Konerko said. "He's an emotional guy. He felt terrible after dropping that ball. It was definitely a redeemer."

Chicago starter Freddy Garcia also played a large role as he pitched seven innings, scattering seven hits and giving up two earned runs.

"Freddy deserved that win," Quinton said. "You can't say enough about what Freddy's been able to do."

Texas stranded seven runners on base for the night with Garcia seemingly having no problem pitching out of jams.

"You always look back where you might have had some opportunities to get runs," Manager Ron Washington said. "We let some of those get away from us early."

It's funny how things go with this Rangers' team. It's the least runs Texas has allowed in nearly a week (a 2-1 loss to the Cubs) and their bats go cold after scoring 18 runs in the previous two games combined. Go figure.

Texas returns home to the Ballpark in Arlington to take on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays who currently have the best record in baseball at 36-18. Tampa Bay is the best road team in the Majors (21-6), while Texas is the third best home team (18-9).

C.J. Wilson (3-3, 3.43 ERA) gets the start for the Rangers, while Wade Davis (5-4, 4.04) takes the mound of the Devil Rays with a 7:05 p.m. start time.

News and Notes:
  • Texas has scored only 10 runs as a team in Colby Lewis last seven starts. Lewis is 1-4 in that time span.
